Causes of Sagging Breasts

Breast sagging is an inevitable thing that will happen to all women out there. This is especially common upon reaching adulthood. Although it is uncommon for teenage girls, it can still happen to those who have large breast. Sagging of the breasts is due to the fact that the breasts lack any muscles in them.

Breasts consist entirely of fat, ligaments and connective tissues which will ultimately decide the size and shape of the breast. Due to gravity, the ligaments will stretch downwards and thus, the breast will droop and sag. Breast sagging is much more common in women with larger breasts. There are also a few other reasons that will contribute to breast sagging.
Ageing
As we grow older, the amount of collagen and elastin production decreases substantially. As a result, the skin and breast will start to droop down and be less elastic, causing sagging of the breast.
Menopause
Menopause is an inevitable part of a woman's life and menopause will cause the brain to send signals to the breast, indicating that they are no longer required to produce milk. As such, the milk ducts will start to shrink and become smaller, causing the breast to lose its fullness and become saggy.
Gravity
The effect of gravity is bigger and greater on a heavier thing as compared to a lighter one. As such, the bigger the breast, the larger the effect of gravity is. Gravity will cause the skin tissues and ligaments to pull towards the ground. To counter the effects of gravity, a proper bra that provides good support should be worn.
Smoking
Smoking is a common cause for saggy breasts. This is due to the carcinogenic substances contained in the smoke which will break down the elastin in the body, causing sagging of the skin. Prolonged smoking will also cause the breakdown of elastin and tissues in the breast, causing sagging.
Exercising
Constant exercising is good for the body as a whole, but not so ideal for the breasts. Exercising will cause the breast to move about and make the ligaments stretch, causing more stress to the breast tissues. To prevent this, proper sports bra that will hold the breast in place during exercise should be worn to add additional support.
Different people have different breast size and unfortunately as we age, our breasts will start to sag. There is not much that we can do to prevent breast sagging. Breast sagging is a natural process and the only thing that we can do is to wear a proper bra with the proper support to hold them in place.
